I grew up in a single parent home with a mother struggling with mental illness, and my father who was in recent recovery from substance abuse. My parents both worked as hard as possible but never would we be able to afford college. I entered undergrad in 2005, shortly before the recession. I graduated in 2010 and obtained my MSW by 2016. I now work in a psychiatric care and detox hospital in the Boston area. My whole life all I wanted was to help others, now I know that it was a need to help in the way that I felt I needed but no one could provide. I love my job but the crippling debt makes it impossible to move forward in life. All I wanted was to help others, and now, for the first time, I’m asking for others to help me in return.
